YouthAdvance Australia is currently seeking Outdoor Education Guides/Instructors based out of Brookvale, NSW.
This position is open to Full Time or Part Time (3 days per week) positions.
YouthAdvance runs outdoor education programs for the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award for participants in across Australia. Our locations range from in and around Sydney, Hunter Valley, Blue Mountains, Snowy Mountains, and Arnhem Land. We like to get our students outdoors in challenging environments so that they can become #WorldReady.
For interested candidates, this amazing opportunity also comes with an opportunity to engage in training and assessment of clients through delivery of a number of courses. Candidates with Certificate IV in Training and Assessment are encouraged to apply and for those interested without the qualification, this can be provided as part of the employment contract for full time employees.
Position Overview
Our Outdoor Guides are responsible for leading our Adventurous Journey programs in the field.
The job role requires the following tasks to be completed:
- Liaise with the program co-ordinator for up and coming programs and plan for deployment and issuing of program gear
- Assist to deliver planned programs as stipulated in daily run sheets
- Maintain compliance to SOP’s while delivering programs
- Ensure compliance with the requirements of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (we will assist you in this as needed)
- Monitor hazards and implement risk management strategies as stipulated in program documents
- Prepare program appropriate equipment prior to departure and maintain the scheduled inspection, servicing and cleaning of company equipment
- Complete and file program documentation as required
- Perform secondary duties when not required in the field
- Assist in the development of new programs
- Provide pre-program information presentations and training sessions
- Meet and greet parents and participants prior to planned journeys
- Assist in the driving our 12 seater compant buses or vehicles with trailer
The successful applicant will need to demonstrate:
- Qualifications in Outdoor Recreation and or Education (or currently obtaining)
- Some experience in leading groups of young people
- Skill set in the following:
- Track and off track navigation in a variety of locations
- Bushwalking and general remote camping experience
- Some flatwater sea kayaking / canoe experience (desirable, not essential)
- 4x4 driving in remote location (desirable, not essential)
- Hold a valid First Aid certificate (Remote Area or Wilderness preferred)
- Good communication skills among different people including parents, teachers, students
- Fundamental knowledge of office-based technology such as Microsoft Office
- Ability to work independently with some supervision
- Ability to motivate and inspire young people
- Current Driver’s Licence
- Current Working With Children Check
Commencement Date: Late 2024/Early 2025
Position Details:
Hours Per Week – 38 full time, 24 part time.
Rate - $30-40 per hour depending on the skills and experience
Days - Flexible roster available for the right candidate.
3-6 month contracts available including sign on and completion bonus.
