Are you passionate about inspiring the next generation of leaders? Do you have experience supporting young people who are at risk, living with disability, or facing accessibility challenges?
YouthAdvance Australia is looking for enthusiastic and skilled Urban Outdoor Educators to join our team in Brookvale, NSW.
We are hiring for both Full Time and Part Time roles, starting in early 2026.
At YouthAdvance, we deliver meaningful outdoor education experiences as part of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, empowering young Australians to step outside their comfort zones and become #WorldReady.
Our urban-based programs take participants who are not suited to bush or remote settings across city and suburban landscapes – from Sydney’s coastal paths and harbour foreshore to cycleways, parks, and urban green corridors.
This is more than just a job – it’s an opportunity to:
- Lead and deliver life-changing urban-based Adventurous Journey Experiences that connect young people with each other and their own city in new and challenging ways.
- Help design and deliver programs that encourage resilience, problem-solving, and independence with individuals who are not suited to a bush setting for various reasons. Eg mental or physical health conditions.
- Contribute to training and assessment through nationally recognised courses eg First Aid (with Certificate IV in Training and Assessment available as part of the contract for full-time employees).
What You’ll Do:
- Lead and deliver both urban outdoor and virtual programs aligned with the Duke of Ed framework.
- Support program planning, preparation, and logistics in city and suburban environments with the opportunity to join off track bush programs as required.
- Ensure safety and compliance through effective risk management in public and built spaces.
- Engage with parents, teachers, and students to create a positive and supportive experience.
- Assist in developing new programs and delivering pre-journey training.
- Care for and manage equipment such as day-hike gear, and portable camp setups.
- Inspire young people through leadership, guidance, and example.
What We’re Looking For:
- Qualifications in Outdoor Recreation, Outdoor/Environmental Education, teaching, youth work or related fields (or currently completing).
- Experience leading groups of young people in urban or environments.
- Strong skills in navigation and walking in city landscapes.
- Bonus skills: kayaking/canoeing, public transport journey planning, orienteering.
- First Aid Certificate (Advanced First Aid/Remote Area First Aid highly regarded).
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Tech literacy (Microsoft Office and basic mapping tools).
- Driver’s Licence and Working With Children Check compulsory.
The Offer:
- Start: Early 2026
- Full Time: 38 hrs/week | Part Time: 38 hrs/fortnight
- Pay: $30–$38/hour (depending on skills and experience)
- Any additional hours worked on longer trips are taken as time in lieu the week before or after.
- Flexible roster to suit the right candidate.
- Career development opportunities, including training support.
If you’re ready to combine your love for the outdoors with the chance to make a real difference in young people’s lives in an urban setting, we’d love to hear from you.
